Paul McGinley’s golf club hire operation, ClubstoHire.com, has opened stores on Tenerife and Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, bringing the number of outlets in Europe to 11. The stores at Antalya, Alicante, Murcia, Dublin, Malaga, Edinburgh, the Isle of Man, Lisbon and Faro are already proving popular with travelling golfers who are, otherwise, faced with prohibitive airline baggage charges.
The business is on target to save its customers €1,000,000 on excess baggage charges during 2012. Paul McGinley’s fellow director, Tony Judge, said: “Nearly 13 million passengers use the airports at Tenerife each year, while the airport at Gran Canaria handles around 10.5 million – that’s an awful lot of people, many of whom may find themselves faced with excess baggage charges, particularly if they’re planning on playing golf while they’re away.
“That’s where ClubstoHire.com comes into its own; if only a quarter of one per cent of those passengers are looking to carry golf clubs, renting from us could save more than €1.7 million – that’s a staggering figure and shows just how exploitative the airlines have become.”
Ryanair recently increased its charges for golf bags to a minimum of €100 per return flight, while, before the end of last year, Air Berlin raised its golf bag carriage charge to €100 return. With the majority of European carriers now charging upwards of €60 return, hiring a set of high-end clubs from ClubstoHire.com makes economic sense while also offering peace of mind.
A broad equipment range is offered from €35 per week, with options available from TaylorMade (including the R11S driver and the new RocketBallz), Callaway, Wilson and MD Golf. All clubs are offered – left or right-handed, ladies and men’s – and hire is available from one day to a full four weeks. For those wishing to travel extra-light, shoe hire is also available.
The service is easy to use – just order online ahead of travel and pick up the hire set at the destination.
