Christmas Choirs at Cork Airport, Céilí Music Celebration at Shannon

Passengers at Cork Airport will be in for a special festive treat in the busy build-up to the Christmas period with choirs from Cork City and County putting on daily performances at peak times in Arrivals. Meanwhile, the festive season will get a rousing lift-off at Shannon Airport with a Music Celebration on Friday 7th December in Departures.

The Arrivals concourse at Cork Airport will ring out with Christmas carols and songs for two weeks before Christmas as adult and school choirs from Cork entertain passengers and those meeting and greeting them home.

St Colman’s Chamber Choir from Cobh will provide festive cheer with their wide repertoire of traditional carols on Friday 14th December followed by Templebreedy Children’s Choir on Saturday 15th. Other choirs attending include Cork Rokk Choir – Cork’s first rock choir – and The Carrigaline Youth Choir singing in aid of the Cork Simon Community on Sunday 22nd December.

The performances will create a great Christmas atmosphere at the airport and provide a wonderful backdrop for the delightful scenes of people returning home to Cork for Christmas.

Music Celebration at Shannon

The internationally acclaimed Kilfenora Céilí Band from North Clare will headline the free Music Celebration at Shannon Airport that will feature the best of music and comedy talent from across the region. Comedian Karl Spain will fly the Limerick flag as he warms the crowd with his side-splitting show. Socks in the Frying Pan, one of the country’s best young trad bands, will strengthen the Clare representation on the night, while the Silvermines Choir from North Tipperary will set the mood with their delightful Christmas carols ensemble.

The ticket-only event will get underway at 20.00 and while the event is free it is expected to attract an attendance of up to 800 people. Funds will be raised on the night for one worthy local charity, details of which will be announced next week.

Shannon Airport Christmas Music

Looking ahead to the event, Shannon Airport Director Mary Considine said it promises to be one of the most memorable music celebrations not just of the Christmas season, but the entire year in the Mid-West. “This free event is all about saying ‘thank you’ to the people of the region for their support in 2012. We have a long tradition at Shannon Airport of staging events like this and this year’s is a really fantastic line-up.

“In many respects, it’s only right that we would have put together an event like this. 2012 has been a challenging year at the airport but we are finishing it out on a high note in terms of recent announcements of new services for 2013, so this will be an appropriate celebration to match.”

Looking ahead to the event, Kilfenora Céilí Band leader John Lynch said the group is really looking forward to putting on a performance at the free concert. “The Kilfenora Céilí Band has travelled the world over performing for many, many years and Shannon has always been our airport, so we are delighted to be on board for the Christmas Music Celebration. It also gives us a great opportunity at year end to perform for our fans and in the county where the band was born and bred, so we are really looking forward to the event.”

Tickets are now available for collection at Clare FM, Limerick’s Live 95FM and Tipp FM. A limited number of tickets are also available for collection from the Shannon Airport Information Desk.
