Romania’s capital, Bucharest is set to become the latest European city to introduce a travel tax.

City officials recently approved the tax, which is expected to come into being this year and will see overnight visitors pay an extra charge of around €2 per night.

The tax will be a flat levy across all types of accommodation and will be collected by the properties with the overall sums going towards tourism promotion.

The city is hoping to raise around €3m a year from the move.
