Berlin Looking to Adopt Copenhagen Sustainable Tourism Action-Reward Policy

Berlin has, reportedly, expressed interest in adopting Copenhagen’s successful sustainable tourism policy of rewarding tourists for adopting green and sustainable travel options while visiting the city.

The Danish capital has been successful with its CopenPay programme, which rewards tourists who use sustainable practices like using bikes to get around, picking up rubbish, using trains and subways and recycling food containers. In turn, the tourists are rewarded with things like free or discounted access to cultural amenities or free food and drink.

Now Denmark has launched DestinationPay – a global sustainable tourism initiative that it can adapt to any city worldwide, and – according to The Berliner newspaper – the German capital is interested in participating.

The Wonderful Copenhagen organisation has said 100 global destinations, in all, have declared an interest.
