Belfast City Airport Achieves Platinum Level Environmental Award

Belfast City Airport has achieved Platinum Level in Business in the Community Northern Ireland’s Environmental Benchmarking Survey

This is the sixth year that the airport, located only five minutes from Belfast city centre, has achieved Platinum Level, exemplifying its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business practice.

Delivered annually, the survey assesses organisations on a wide range of environmental metrics, including carbon management, biodiversity, waste reduction, and overall sustainability performance.

Ian Nuttall, Environment and Sustainability Manager at Belfast City Airport, said: “Our strategy for growth places the environment at its core, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, minimising resource use, increasing our use of renewable energy, and managing local impacts.

“Being ranked as a top performer in Business in the Community’s Environmental Benchmarking Survey is a testament to this, reflecting the dedication of our wider team and partners who work to ensure we are leading by example and delivering meaningful progress across all areas of our operation.”

Belfast City Airport’s ongoing environmental and sustainability work has resulted in it reducing its direct carbon emissions by 13% since 2022.

Dr Lisa McIlvenna, Managing Director, Business in the Community, said: “The Survey is a self-disclosure exercise that offers organisations a way to be externally assessed and scored on their environmental efforts and performance. Participating organisations are sent a Gap Analysis Report to help them to identify areas that need action and highlights where they are performing well, so it’s a comparison tool and real driver for improvement.”
