Barbados Freshly Promotes 12-Month Visa Programme to Irish Remote Workers

Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) is actively promoting the Caribbean island nation’s ‘Welcome Stamp’ to Irish-based remote workers in a bid to entice them to work from the tropical paradise on a 1-year visa.

The Barbados Welcome Stamp programme was launched in 2020 as a 12-month working visa, allowing people to live the Caribbean lifestyle without sacrificing work obligations.

“Remote work has remained popular, worldwide, since the Covid-19 pandemic forced people to adjust their working arrangements. However, Irish professionals may not be fully realising the scale of opportunities available for remote work,” BTMI said.

The appeal of this Caribbean lifestyle has already drawn interest from Irish nationals. In 2020, the year of the programme’s inception, 68 Irish individuals applied for the Barbados Welcome Stamp. Out of these applications, 52 were approved, allowing over 75% of Irish applicants to work remotely on the island for a year.

However, since then only 86 applications to the Welcome Stamp programme have been made from Ireland, 63 of those being approved. Its continued approval rate of 73% shows there is an appetite in Barbados to welcome Irish visitors and their families to its sunny shores.

Key Requirements and Application Process

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate an annual income of at least $50,000.
  • Be able to work remotely and independently of Barbados-based employers.

The application process is simple and can be completed online. Successful applicants can also renew their visas year-on-year subject to approval. With the success of this programme, Barbados has remained a popular destination, attracting a mix of professionals, from tech freelancers to corporate employees.

The Barbados Welcome Stamp offers a rare opportunity for Irish citizens to combine work and travel, experiencing life in an idyllic setting. With high approval rates and a supportive infrastructure for remote work, Barbados is ready to welcome Irish professionals seeking a year in paradise.
