Australia to further ease border restrictions from December

Australian prime minister Scott Morrison has confirmed that the country will reopen its borders to foreign visa holders from 1 December – but they must be fully vaccinated.

Australia first began reopening its borders – which had been closed since May 2020 – a few weeks ago with the admission of foreign family members of Australian citizens.

The further relaxing of the rules will allow vaccinated students, humanitarian workers, business visa holders and refugees to enter.

“The return of skilled workers and students to Australia is a major milestone in our pathway back,” Morrison told reporters in Canberra.

Entry Requirements

All eligible applicants must hold a valid qualifying visa and be fully vaccinated – with proof of vaccine to be shown. They must also provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel.

A safe travel zone has also been established with Singapore.

The return of leisure travellers is expected early in 2022.
