As part of The Gathering 2013 a group comprising 42 Argentinians of Irish descent, as well as enthusiasts of Argentine culture and tourism living in Ireland, met this week at the Mont Clare Hotel in Dublin to share their experiences of both countries.
Jorge Mackey, a member of the Irish – Argentina ‘Almirante Brown’ making his fifth trip to Ireland, was delighted to make the return trip.
The highlight for the visitors was a trip to Foxford, Co Mayo, to visit the birthplace of Almirante Brown. Gus O’Hara of the Almirante Brown Museum in Foxford had welcomed the group to Foxford and told the gathering how pleased and proud Ireland was to welcome them.
Two former Ambassadors to Argentina, Philomena Murnaghan and Paula Slattery, addressed The Gathering in Spanish – a really appropriate welcoming touch. The acting Ambassador of Argentina to Ireland, Ana Pisano Ashton, also welcomed the group.
Kristina and Julian performed a fiery tango to finish off a great night that enhanced the relationship between Ireland and Argentina.
