Aran Wins Germany Travel Writers’ Award – Again

Aran Brazil, Irish Sun, has won the German National Tourist Office’s Germany Travel Writers’ Award – for the second year running. One of the biggest events in Germany next year will be the international garden exhibition, IGA Berlin, from 13th April to 15th October 2017.

Klaus Lohmann, Director UK & Ireland (above with Mattias Höphner, His Excellency German Ambassador to Ireland), said that Irish visitor overnights in Germany increased by 13% last year to 435,494 and that the German NTO was hoping for similar growth next year. “As well as IGA Berlin 2017, there will be events celebrating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s Reformation, the major arts and design event Documenta 14 in Kassel from 10th June to 17th September, and in December the launch of the world’s highest cable car.”

Aran’s prize is flights for two to Frankfurt, Deutsche Bahn tickets to Weimar and two nights in the Hotel Elephant. Una Mullally, Irish Times, won second prize of flights for two to Frankfurt, Deutsche Bahn tickets to Coburg, and two nights in the Best Western Blankenburg Hotel, while the third prize, a box of wine, was won by Caroline Delaney, Irish Examiner.

Ralf Lissek, Chief Executive, German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce, invited the Irish travel trade to use the Chamber’s contacts to develop charters to Germany for special interests and trade shows. “We are open for anything,” he asserted.
