With ‘An Post GPO: Witness History’, an immersive exhibition centre, set to open in March in time for the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, management company Shannon Heritage has made two key managerial appointments.
The company has identified the General Manager and Sales and Marketing Manager they believe will make An Post GPO: Witness History a key attraction for both Irish and international tourists from March 2016 onwards.
General Manager for An Post GPO: Witness History with immediate effect will be Aline FitzGerald. She studied Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management at Brighton College of Technology. Originally from Brannockstown, Co Kildare, Aline has more than 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and held the Director of Sales & Marketing position at Four Seasons Hotel Dublin for eight years.
After over 20 years in the hotel industry, Aline decided it was time for a change and recently completed a contract with Trinity College where she was responsible for managing the 60-plus events that comprised Discover Research Dublin 2015.
The role of Sales and Marketing Manager for An Post GPO: Witness History has been appointed to John Horgan. Killarney native John has almost 20 years of experience within the sector and he previously worked with Shannon Heritage as a Sales and Marketing Executive with responsibility for the promotion of the company’s Shannon region attractions.
Created by An Post and managed by Shannon Heritage, An Post GPO Witness History is an immersive, interactive visitor attraction bringing history to life though technology, video, sound and authentic artefacts – many previously unseen. Its special effects, soundscapes and heartfelt stories of real people in extraordinary circumstances will captivate all age-groups, from the curious, young international visitor to the well-informed history buff. There is plenty to interest and engage individuals, families and touring groups.
John Ruddle, Chief Executive of Shannon Heritage, is pleased with the appointments of Aline and John: “They have excellent track records across the hospitality and tourism sectors, and their respective experiences will be a huge asset for An Post GPO: Witness History. The exhibition centre is in safe hands as we look forward to opening in March ahead of the centenary of the 1916 Rising.”
The website for the centre can be found at www.gpowitnesshistory.ie. Here you will find details on the visitor centre, the exhibits, and an outline of the role the GPO had to play in the 1916 Easter Rising, as well as a broader history of the GPO itself.
