When it comes to tourism, Thailand continues to attract amazing numbers of international visitors: from January to November they had a record total of 24.13 million, up by 21% over the same period last year.
For 2014 the Tourism Authority plan is ‘Higher revenue through Thainess’, which will mean a greater emphasis on the charm of Thailand. The target for this year is to attract 28 million, a 7% increase, and to increase revenue to US$39.9 billion.
In line with these plans, they will continue to promote the niche market products such as honeymoons, golf, health and wellness, and green tourism in the international markets.
Thailand attracted more than 62,000 Irish visitors last year and was once again voted by Irish travel agents as Best Asia-Pacific Destination for 2013 at the Irish Travel Trade Awards in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin recently.
TAT are also planning a series of workshops for the Irish market in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Limerick during 2014.
There are now direct weekly non-stop flights from London Gatwick to Phuket operated by Thomson Airways using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 47 Premium seats and 244 Economy.
