Amadeus has appointed David Doctor as Vice President Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa, effective immediately, while Decius Valmorbida succeeds him as Head of Distribution Marketing.
David has served numerous years as Head of Distribution Marketing for Amadeus and will lead commercial activities in Amadeus’s home Western European markets, where the company has a strong base, as well as the growth markets of the Middle East and Africa.
Since 2004, he has held different positions in Amadeus as Director of Airline Distribution and Low Cost Carriers and Director of Airline Marketing and Sales. Under his responsibility, Amadeus has led a new way forward in distribution with the introduction of value-based pricing and the launch of the Amadeus Airline Retailing Platform. The latest evolution transforms the GDS from a purely distribution channel to a retailing platform. David was also responsible for the introduction of Amadeus Ticketless Access, a distribution solution adapted to low-cost carriers’ specific needs.
“This is a large and varied regional role encompassing a number of very different challenges and opportunities,” said Holger Taubmann, Senior Vice President, Distribution. “It requires a clear and innovative thinker, a sharp business mind and a clear focus on delivering for our customers. Throughout his distinguished career at Amadeus David has shown these qualities in abundance and I have no doubt that he will rise to this new challenge and strengthen our position in these key markets.”
David Doctor, who replaces Angel Gallego, recently appointed Head of the Asia Pacific region, will remain based in Amadeus IT Group’s global headquarters in Madrid. He joined Amadeus in 1999 as Market Manager for Western Europe, and was appointed Director for Western Europe in 2003.
