Airbnb Reveals Most Affordable International Housestay Destinations for Irish Holidaymakers this Autumn

Airbnb has revealed the most affordable destinations for Irish people looking to book accommodation for this autumn.

The housestay booking giant has also updated on latest trends – including news that Irish holidaymakers are increasingly looking at long distance destinations such as Japan and Brazil, while also looking to European locations and staycations for Autumn breaks.

Based on new Airbnb data, 80% of Irish people say price is an important contributing factor when deciding on accommodation and 60% said that they saved money by choosing Airbnb over other accommodation options. 

When comparing price-per-night over recent years on Airbnb, prices during the year tend to be the lowest in the September through November timeframe.

From the spectacular temples and exotic islands of Thailand to the dramatic coastal gems of Italy, below are some destinations that offer the best savings in September and throughout autumn for Irish guests. With warm, comfortable climates and fewer tourists compared to peak travel times, these spots offer relaxed exploration at an affordable cost.

2024 Autumn Trends: Culture treks, European autumn, Italian getaways, and the Wild Atlantic Way


This autumn, Irish people are seeking longer-haul ‘culture treks’ to Japan and Brazil. In particular, Kyoto in Japan, featured in the international trending list, has a rich cultural offering with historic temples, traditional gardens, and vibrant autumn foliage. While Armação dos Búzios in Brazil provides a blend of natural beauty and cultural charm with pristine beaches, lively atmosphere, and picturesque streets. These destinations promise immersive cultural exploration for Irish travellers.

With reduced travel costs, temperatures and crowds, it’s also clear that Irish people are extending the ‘European Summer’ trend into autumn, with searches for destinations  like Tías in the Canary IslandsBudva in Montenegro, and  TikTok-favouriteLisbon, soaring in the autumn months.



Autumn travel trends for 2024 are very much an Italian job. From the rolling hills of Tuscany to the historic city of Milan, down to the idyllic islands of Sardinia, these destinations across Italy continue to be firm favourites this autumn for the Irish looking to enjoy sun, sea and scenery.



Airbnb data also shows that Irish people are embracing the beauty of traditional autumnal escapes closer to home in rural Ireland, with a pull towards the charming coastal destinations such as the picturesque island of Inishbofin, County Galway and the seaside resort of Ballybunion, County Kerry. Many Irish guests are looking to spend their autumn evenings, wrapped up warm watching the Atlantic waves crashing against the rugged coastline.
