Aer Lingus today announced traffic statistics for December 2011. Total booked passenger numbers, including Aer Lingus Regional operations, increased by 13.0% in December 2011, which represents a continuation of the positive trend in Aer Lingus’s recent results.
The year-on-year comparison of Aer Lingus’s booked passenger numbers and load factor performance in December 2011 was affected by the poor weather conditions experienced in December 2010, which led to flight combinations and cancellations and to customers holding multiple bookings resulting from significant disruptions to operations.
Total booked passenger numbers in December 2011 were 638,000, an increase of 11.5% compared to December 2010. Short-haul booked passengers were 574,000, an increase of 13.9%, while long-haul booked passengers were 64,000, a decrease of 5.9%.
Booked load factor decreased by 6.2 points to 68.4%. Short-haul booked load factor was 67.7%, a decrease of 5.5 points, with capacity increasing by 22.8% on December 2010. Long-haul booked load factor was 69.5%, a decrease of 7.1 points, with capacity increasing by 5.6% on December 2010.
Aer Lingus Regional’s total booked passenger numbers in December 2011 were 64,000, an increase of 30.6% compared to December 2010.
