Aer Lingus to Acquire Boeing 757s

Irish Travel Trade News has learned that Aer Lingus is in contract discussions to lease up to three Boeing 757 aircraft for four years. The plan is to operate these aircraft on transatlantic routes such as New York JFK and Boston from Shannon.

It would also allow the carrier to expand transatlantic services to include new routes such as Toronto. The acquisition would also release some of the A330 fleet to operate to the West Coast of the USA, with San Francisco high on the wish list.

Coming on the heels of the Virgin Domestic deal and the wet lease of an A330 to Novair in Scandinavia, it shows that the Aer Lingus management team are not sitting on their fingers.
