Aer Lingus Launches Cork-Lyon Route

Aer Lingus has announced a new Cork-Lyon route, which will begin flying in December.

As Irish holidaymakers start to set their sights on a Winter break, Aer Lingus announces Lyon as a new destination, as well as the reintroduction of popular winter sun favourites, from Cork Airport.

Starting from Christmas, December 23, Aer Lingus will operate the Cork to Lyon route once a week, every Saturday, taking winter sports enthusiasts straight to the heart of the breathtaking Alps. The service will run until the end of March, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the snowy paradise.

This winter, Aer Lingus aims to ramp up flight capacity between France and Ireland close to a whopping 20%, with a special focus on increasing flights between Ireland and Lyon by 14%.

Aer Lingus is increasing its total seat offering from Cork by nearly 37%, which is achieved by bringing back two fan-favourite routes: Cork to Tenerife and Cork to Malaga. The Cork to Tenerife route will kick off on October 28th and continue throughout the winter months. Cork to Malaga will operate over Christmas and the February mid-term break. And answering the interest of consumer demand for winter sun, the frequency of the Cork to Lanzarote route will double from two flights per week to four flights during the peak winter travel period.

Donal Moriarty, Aer Lingus Chief Corporate Affairs Officer said: ‘‘We are delighted to announce the launch of the Cork to Lyon route with Cork Airport, as well as the reintroduction of the Cork to Tenerife and Cork to Malaga routes and increased frequency from Cork to Lanzarote. We recognise the desire of our customers in the Southwest to continue their international exploration through the winter months and we are delighted to provide the Cork region with more routes to do so.

‘’We anticipate a surge in demand for these winter and sun routes, especially during the festive season when many are eager to travel. Whether dreaming of carving up the slopes in one of the 200 incredible ski resorts accessible from Lyon airport or basking in the glorious sun in Tenerife, we’re here to help make our customers’ Christmas break unforgettable.”

Welcoming the announcement, Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development at Cork Airport added: “Cork Airport welcomes the announcement by Aer Lingus of a new winter service to Lyon. The brand-new service will provide even more choice for passengers across the South of Ireland when planning a winter ski break. Lyon is France’s third largest city, and this new route will provide great access to some of France’s best-known ski resorts like Val Thorens, Chamonix, and Tignes. The announcement by Aer Lingus of the return of a winter service to Tenerife, along with increased frequencies on Lanzarote and Malaga will naturally come as very welcome news to the many passengers seeking warmer climates from Munster’s favourite airport this winter.”

In addition to the new and enhanced winter services, Aer Lingus will operate a direct service from Cork Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle this autumn, catering for the many fans from Cork and the South of Ireland who plan on travelling to the Rugby World Cup in France.
