The new 51st and Green lounge in Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 was the starting point for the launch of the new Aer Lingus service to Newark, New Jersey, with members of the trade and media being treated to coffee and snacks at the start of the celebrations for the inaugural flight.
Flight EI 101 departs Dublin at 12.55 and arrives Newark at 15.15, seven days a week.
Aer Lingus inaugural flight EI-101 to Newark, New Jersey, an Airbus A330-202, , registration EI-DAA, took off from Dublin airport . The airline now offers a year-round, daily service from Dublin direct to Newark, New Jersey to service the New York market.
More than 50% of guests onboard started their journey outside of Dublin from destinations such as Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, Manchester, London and Edinburgh, to name but a few.
Only 40 minutes from downtown Manhattan, flying from Dublin into Newark is another great option for those keen to visit the Big Apple and with its existing daily services from Dublin and Shannon to New York JFK, Aer Lingus now flies up to four times daily from Ireland to New York.
Newark, just eight miles from Manhattan, offers one of the country’s largest and most glamorous performing arts venues, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, not to mention the largest premium outlet mall in the state. Sports fans can cheer on the NHL New Jersey Devils (men’s basketball) as they battle for glory at the Prudential Center, which has also hosted music concerts by artists such as Jay Z, Taylor Swift, and Pink.
Newark is the second of three new transatlantic routes to commence this summer, marking the single largest expansion of the Aer Lingus transatlantic network since the airline commenced transatlantic flying in 1958. A direct new service to Los Angeles, California, began in May and in late September a new four times weekly service will commence from Dublin to Hartford, Connecticut.
The growth plan underpins Aer Lingus’s successful strategy of expanding its Dublin Airport base into a major European transatlantic gateway. The convenience of US Customs and Border Protection services at Dublin has enhanced the continued growth of the Aer Lingus Dublin operation as a connecting gateway. Three new transatlantic aircraft have joined the Aer Lingus fleet this year and, as previously announced, two new Airbus A330s will be delivered in 2017.

Together with our daily services to JFK from Dublin and Shannon, Aer Lingus now offers customers a choice of up to four flights to New York each day and by the end of this month, Aer Lingus will operate 28 daily services across the Atlantic.
“While we continue to connect Ireland to the world, we now play an increasing role in connecting Europe to North America and aim to be the number one value carrier across the North Atlantic. On today’s inaugural to Newark, more than half our guests began their journey outside of Ireland, starting out from UK cities such as Newcastle, Edinburgh, and London as well as European cities such as Brussels, Paris, Dubrovnik, to name but a few.”
Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport Managing Director, said that the airport was delighted to welcome the second of Aer Lingus’s three new transatlantic services this year. “We have been growing our transatlantic traffic strongly at Dublin Airport and passenger numbers have grown by 62% on these routes between 2010 and 2015.”
