A new version of the famous Orient Express will return to Italy next year.
The new Orient Express La Dolce Vita will make a comeback in 2023.
The plan includes six different trains across 14 Italian regions. This will include three international routes from Rome to Paris, Istanbul and Split.
Trips are expected to run between one to three days. Reservations will open in June 2022 for travel in 2023.
It is a joint project between Trenitalia, part of Italy’s state railway company Ferrovie Dello Stato, and investor Arsenale. Hotel group Accor is La Dolce Vita’s official hospitality partner.
Stephen Alden, CEO Raffles and Orient Express at Accor commented, “It is thrilling to be bringing the refined nomadic spirit of Orient Express back to life for a new generation of travellers. The original train route was innovative in the way it paradoxically brought cultures together, history with modernity. As artisans of travel, we wish to revive this old-world, awe-inspiring ‘journey to elsewhere’.”
It will rival the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which is operated by Belmond and offers journeys once a week through Europe from London and Venice.
