20% of Scheduled UK & Ireland Flights Cancelled due to Storm Éowyn; Irish Airports Update

So far, more than 1,120 flights across the UK and Ireland have been cancelled today due to the ravages of Storm Éowyn – roughly 20% of all scheduled flights across both countries.

According to aviation analyst Cirium 141 flights have been cancelled at Irish airports so far – making up 41% of scheduled departures. There have also been 127 cancelled arrivals, 37% of the schedule.

Dublin has seen 119 departures cancelled and 109 arrivals cancelled.

Cork has seen 9 departures cancelled and 7 arrivals cancelled

Ireland West/Knock has seen 5 departures cancelled and 5 arrivals cancelled

Irish airports are constantly updating as the day progresses. As it stands, this is the big picture:

Ireland West Airport (Knock) is completely closed until 1pm, due to the Status Red warning currently in operation in Co Mayo, where gusts of more than 130km have been measured.

It’s better news at Dublin Airport, which remains open this morning. Winds have eased there, which has allowed flights to commence.

Belfast International Airport said its operations, today, remain limited. A spokesperson for the airport said: “This remains a fast-moving situation and flight schedules will continue to change over the coming hours. Passengers should continue to check with their airline throughout today and tomorrow for the latest updates to flights.  If their flight is operating passengers are reminded to arrive at the airporttwo hours before their airlines scheduled departure time.”

“Across the airport site we have experienced intermittent power outages, and we are working with our airline partners to understand how their flights will be impacted as the day goes on.”

Cork Airport said local weather warnings will drop from Status Orange to Status Yellow from noon. Flight operations have resumed, but some services throughout the day may be delayed.

Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport said airlines have cancelled a number of flights scheduled to arrive and depart this morning. “Passengers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information,” Shannon said.
