Planeterra Launches New Round of Sustainable Tourism Funding

Planeterra, the global non-profit community tourism company, has announced a new round of funding through its Global Community Tourism Fund.

Since its launch in 2022, the programme has awarded 40 grants across 23 countries, helping local communities develop and enhance sustainable tourism experiences that create social, economic, and environmental benefits. Thanks to the generous contributions of Evaneos and other committed donors, this latest round will distribute $50,000, providing individual grants of up to $3,500 along with mentorship and capacity-building support.

The Fund provides an opportunity for community and non-profit organisations to expand their impact by:

● Creating new community tourism experiences

● Improving infrastructure and equipment to meet market demand

● Providing training and professional development

● Developing nature-positive tourism initiatives focused on climate and biodiversity

Through the Global Community Tourism Fund, community-led organisations like Panauti Bike Station in Nepal have expanded opportunities for youth and women, Lomas del Paraíso in Peru has engaged more community members in ecotourism activities, and Tours and Arts Solutions in Ghana (pictured below) has promoted the country’s rich culinary heritage—including the publication of Agbeko’s Ghanaian Specials cookbook.

“At Planeterra, we believe tourism creates lasting change when communities lead the way. Through the Global Community Tourism Fund, we are reaching more communities and non-profit organisations looking to tourism as a means to achieve their goals. By providing funding, mentorship, and resources, we help local leaders strengthen their initiatives and increase their impact,” said Kelly Galaski, Senior Director of Operations & Head of Impact at Planeterra. “This round of funding is another step toward a more inclusive and equitable tourism industry.”
