Maldives Named ‘World’s Leading Green Destination’

The Maldives was named the World’s Leading Green Destination at the recent prestigious World Travel Awards 2024.

The Indian Ocean-based archipelago country came out on top of a shortlist of nominations which included Chile – the winner for the last two consecutive years – Colombia, 2021 winner Ecuador, Madagascar, Norway, Peru and St Vincent & The Grenadines.

The Gaia Hotel & Resort, in Costa Rica, was named the best Green hotel, meanwhile.

Other sustainable tourism winners included: indepenent hotel operator Delphina Hotels & Resorts, Dark Sky Alqueva in Portugal, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Vietnam, Rome Cavalieri Hotel in Italy, PARKROYAL Collection Hotel in Singapore, and tour operator Explorandes.
