KLM Starts Operation of Electric Plane Tow Tractors at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport

KLM has put its first new electric Goldhofer aircraft tow tractors into operation at Schiphol Airport. This marks another step towards the airline’s goal of achieving zero-emission ground operations by 2030.

The Goldhofer Phoenix AST2E, leased via TCR, replaces the current diesel models and offers greater versatility than the existing electric tractors. The new tractors can push back and tow both small aircraft and large planes—up to the size of a Boeing 777.

These new tow tractors are completely emission-free and quieter, while also offering increased comfort for drivers thanks to improved suspension. This creates a better working environment and delivers an immediate positive impact on air quality on the apron.
