Dublin Airport Partners with Enerpower/Greenvolt on 9MW Solar Farm to Provide 13% of Electricity Requirements

Dublin Airport is making a significant step towards sustainability with the implementation of a 9 megawatt (MW) solar farm, installed by Enerpower powered by Greenvolt, a leading renewable energy company in Ireland, and part of the Greenvolt Group – a global leader in the renewable energy sector.

This solar installation, comprising 15,000 high-efficiency panels, will provide 13% of the airport’s total electricity requirements, reducing its reliance on grid electricity and supporting Ireland’s ambitious renewable energy targets.

This project was designed and installed by Enerpower, powered by Greenvolt, to efficiently utilise solar energy by taking advantage of Ireland’s unique climate.

Located within the grounds of Dublin Airport, the 9MW solar farm will generate approximately 8.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually, equivalent to powering 1,600 homes for a year. This project will not only enhance Dublin Airport’s energy independence but also significantly reduce its carbon footprint, avoiding approximately 2,583 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

“Our partnership with Dublin Airport demonstrates how solar power can be seamlessly integrated to meet the energy needs of large-scale operations while supporting ambitious environmental goals,” said John Carty, CCO of Enerpower.

“Ireland’s transition to renewable energy is firmly underway and significant projects such as this are a vital step to achieving a net zero economy by 2050”.

Daa is the operator of Dublin Airport and the solar farm aligns directly with its sustainability objectives and Ireland’s broader public sector climate goals. By 2030, daa aims to reduce Dublin Airport’s  direct (Scope 1 and 2) emissions by 51%, with this solar project playing a key role in achieving that target.
