Air France-KLM to ‘Double Down’ On Decarbonisation Effort

Air France-KLM boss Benjamin Smith has said the airline group remains “a benchmark” for aviation sustainability and will “double down” on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) usage this year.

Mr Smith was speaking on the back of a strong set of annual results for the airline group, which showed a net profit of €900m for 2023 and a 14% increase in group revenue to €30bn.

Air France-KLM is already the world’s leading user of SAF.

Benjamin Smith, Air France-KLM Group CEO, said: “In 2023, we delivered on our commitment to strong operational and financial performance, while also maintaining our position as a benchmark airline Group for sustainability.

“We also placed a historic order for 50 Airbus A350s with purchase rights for 40 additional aircraft, thereby accelerating our fleet’s renewal with latest-generation aircraft that offer improved fuel efficiency, lower CO2 and noise emissions, and an enhanced experience for our customers. We also confirmed our position as the world’s leading user of sustainable aviation fuel, demonstrating our determination to double down on this key decarbonisation lever to achieve our sustainability objectives.”
