Lufthansa Strike May Affect 425,000 Passengers

The current Lufthansa strike has resulted in the cancellation of 3,800 flights, which means that more than 90% of regular scheduled flights are grounded. The union has stated that the strike will end on Friday. Lufthansa Check-In Counters

On Wednesday 2nd April and Thursday 3rd April all of the three daily Lufthansa flights from Dublin to Frankfurt have been cancelled. On Friday 4th April two out of the three daily flights to Frankfurt will be cancelled.

Lufthansa is informing all passengers who have registered their contact details in their booking or in their Miles & More profile about flight changes via text message and email. Most of the remaining domestic and European flights are being flown by the daughter companies Eurowings and Lufthansa CityLine, whose pilots are not participating in the walkout.

The pilots of the daughter companies Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa CityLine and Air Dolomiti, as well as the pilots of Brussels Airlines, are not participating in the strike. Where possible, these companies are using larger planes on routes from and to Germany in order to bring as many rebooked Lufthansa passengers as possible to their destinations.

Additionally, Lufthansa is re-booking affected passengers on other airlines and in co-operation with German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) is providing train tickets on domestic routes. Airline tickets can be exchanged for a train ticket at automated check-ins or on the Internet. Information on how to exchange Germanwings flight tickets for train tickets is available on www.germanwings.com/aktuell.

Lufthansa is also taking a number of other measures to minimise the impact, as far as possible, on its passengers. For example, in Frankfurt and Munich additional employees will be in the terminal to take care of passengers. Waiting passengers will be taken care of as well as possible there. In the Lufthansa service centres, capacities were already significantly increased. Passengers are requested to visit https://www.lufthansa.com/xx/en/My-Bookings and check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.
