Juan Cullen of Supersun Travel was the lucky winner of a seven-night stay at the 4-star Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, at a most enjoyable evening recently hosted by Maria Slye of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, Leslie Slye and Gabrielle Yates.
The Cypriot wine and food tasting at the Old Punch Bowl in Booterstown, Co Dublin, was attended by 15 travel agents – including five from King Travel – with Leslie Slye presenting six wines: two whites from the xynisteri grape, a shiraz rosé, two reds from the maratheftiko grape, and a St John Commandaria dessert wine, made from xynisteri and mavro grapes.
Great fun was had by everyone and lots of prizes of wine bottles were won by agents, including John Kinane, Robbie Smart, Ella Shirto and Chris Corcoran (as well as two bottles by your reporter!)
Cyprus Wine Routes
The Cyprus Tourism Organisation has published an excellent 100-page A5-size book, ‘Cyprus Wine Routes’, which includes six wine routes as well as general information including the grape varieties to be found in Cyprus.
