Heathrow Claims Most Travellers will be Unaffected by Christmas Strike, Including Aer Lingus Passengers

A three-day strike by baggage handlers at Heathrow in the days before Christmas will have little impact on passengers if it goes ahead, a spokesperson has said.

The union Unite announced last week that 350 members employed by the ground handler Menzies will strike from 4 am on 16 December for 72 hours.

Unite has warned flights that operated by 10 major airlines from Terminals 2,3 and 4 will be affected: American Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air Portugal, Swiss Air, Austrian Airlines, Qantas, Egypt Air, Aer Lingus and Finnair.

A Heathrow official said: “We are aware of industrial action proposed by Menzies colleagues from 16 – 18 December.

“Most passengers at the airport will not notice any impact on their journey if the strike goes ahead.

“In the meantime, we encourage airport partners who would be affected to continue with their contingency planning and we will support them to minimise the impact on their passengers.”
