Abama Golf Course

Rising up the west face of the Teide Volcano, Spain’s highest peak, the Abama golf course was created by Dave Thomas. The 18-hole, par-72 course features over 300 species of sub-tropical plant life, including 25,000 palm trees. With 22 lakes spread throughout the course, along with waterfalls and white sand bunkers, the course is challenging enough to test even the most proficient golfer, while offering novices a satisfying round.

The golf carts used to cover the length of the course and its diverse terrain are equipped with state-of-the-art GPS navigation displaying detailed information about every hole. The club house, situated in the centre of the course, offers golfers and their friends and families a place to dine between holes.

Barbados for Winter Sun

Classic Collection is also featuring the Caribbean island of Barbados as an addition to its short-haul winter programme.

Niall McDonnell, Head of Sales, said: “Having successfully launched our luxury summer 2016 programme, we felt that Barbados perfectly complemented our short-haul winter programme as a long-haul alternative. Barbados is becoming ever more popular in the Irish market and seemed the perfect fit for us. It is an established, luxury product that is very well known and highly regarded on the Irish market. We are hoping to become a luxury specialist to the island as opposed to a generalist in the Caribbean.

“There has been considerable investment in the programme and, as with all Classsic destinations, our staff have personally visited and hand-picked all our featured properties. We have modest expectations of our first season, but we are quietly confident that we will help to grow the market rather than take sales from the existing pool of operators. Our programme is built around London Gatwick departures with British Airways which, given the extensive connectivity from Ireland to Gatwick, makes onward travel seamless.”

Classic will be offering complimentary Irish and UK airport lounge passes, and a fast track immigration clearance service on arrival in Barbados, for all bookings. The operator has also recently introduced a concierge service, for restaurant and event reservations.

To counter the perception that luxury product is found only on the west coast, the operator is featuring hotels on the east and south coast of the island as well. Couples and families are catered for, with a choice of accommodation from family-run, small and intimate boutique-style properties to the most prestigious luxury resorts. All inclusive, and adults only options are included as well as a selection of villa holidays for groups of friends or extended family holidays where a degree of privacy and exclusivity is a requirement.

Prices in November start at €1,405 per person based on two sharing for seven nights staying at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. December prices start at €1,524 at the Ocean Two Resort and Residence and January prices are from €1,609 staying at the South Beach on Rockley Beach.
