First, a Nigerian airline was denied slots at London Heathrow. Then the Nigerian government threatened to cut British Airways flights in Lagos in retaliation. Then the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority imposed fines of $135 million on BA and $100 million on Virgin Atlantic (they operate 21 return flights a week from Britain to Nigeria between them) for alleged collusion over fuel surcharges. Now both airlines have rejected the allegations – and a Nigerian official has rejected allegations that the fines are retaliation for the denied slots.
Oh dear. That’s a lot of rejection!
