Air Baltic has reported a doubling in passenger numbers for July.
The Latvia-based airline carried 414,500 passengers last month – 98% up on the total for the same month last year. July saw Air Baltic fly 3,670 flights, 43% more than in the corresponding month last year.
However, this time last year international travel was still largely in the grip of widespread travel restrictions due to the pandemic. Air Baltic also said current passenger traffic volumes are being impacted by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine and the resulting turmoil in eastern Europe.
“So far in 2022, airBaltic has carried more than 1.7 million passengers, and this summer we see a consistent growth in travel demand,” said Air Baltic chief executive Martin Gauss.
“Driven by leisure travel, our passenger and flight numbers keep increasing each month. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine still has a negative impact on the overall passenger volumes, mainly affecting the transfer traffic in Riga,” Mr Gauss said.
Air Baltic connects major European cities with Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius and Tampere in Finland.
