Quays Bar Gets Facelift Ahead of Galway Races

The Quays Bar Galway has unveiled a vibrant new mural on its exterior, ahead of this year’s Galway Races next week.

The iconic race festival runs from next Monday, July 29 to the following Sunday, August 4.

Owner Louis Fitzgerald has partnered with the talented husband-and-wife team, Ruairi and Caroline from FeatureWalls, to reimagine the building’s exterior with a custom mural.

With over 25 years of experience, Ruairi and Caroline are renowned for creating some of Ireland’s most spectacular murals.

Their latest masterpiece brings even more colour, character to Quay Street, with scenes of Galway harbour, a traditional Irish fingerpost sign, a majestic swan and the beloved Guinness Toucan flying with pints of the black stuff perched on its beak – all set against a vivid sky blue painted background.

The award-winning Quays Bar and Music Hall has long been a magnet for visitors, photographers, music enthusiasts and food lovers. The famous Galway Girl Statue, proudly positioned at the entrance, has been a favourite photo op for locals and tourists alike, while its Music Hall is a mecca for live music with its iconic pipe organ stage on stilts.

Louis Fitzgerald said: “We hope it’ll be a great talking point for locals and visitors to Galway. We wanted to bring even more colour, character, and atmosphere to the street. The Quays already attracts hundreds of photographs each month with the ‘Galway Girl’ Statue, and we believe this new mural will draw similar attention. Galway is home to incredible artwork and murals, and we’re thrilled that The Quays is now part of that family and trail! With an incredible line-up of music for the Galway Races at the end of the month, we’re delighted to have the mural finished in time for it.”

As the countdown to the highly anticipated Galway Race week begins, the Quays has unveiled its musical line-up during the 7 day horse racing festival. Popular musical acts performing at The Quays will include footstompers like Mike Denver, High Stool Prophets, Ruaile Buaile, All Folk’d Up, Mindbenders, Off the Record and Big Digger. The main bar will also have live music from 6pm daily.
