A new hop-on, hop-off shuttle bus service linking towns, villages and visitor attractions throughout North and West Clare is the subject of public consultation and engagement sessions taking place in Miltown Malbay and Kilfenora next week.
The free and bookable ‘Burren and Cliffs Explorer’ is set to be launched by Clare County Council, in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), this summer.
Operating as a pilot project from May 1st to August 31st with the potential to extend into September, the shuttle bus will serve Corofin, Carran, Kilfenora, Doolin, Liscannor and Lahinch, as well as the hub locations of Lisdoonvarna and Miltown Malbay, where free car parking will be provided. The scheduled service will also serve landmark attractions such as the Burren National Park and the Cliffs of Moher Experience.
The Local Authority and NPWS are inviting residents, businesses and key stakeholders to share their views to help shape the future of the initiative by attending public consultation events at the Design Bank in Miltown Malbay Community Centre on Monday, April 7th and at the Burren Centre in Kilfenora on Tuesday, April 8th, with both sessions taking place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Representatives of the Cliffs of Moher Experience and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark will be in attendance along with William Cormacan of the NPWS.
Siobhan McNulty, Director of Tourism Development with Clare County Council said the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Explorer will provide flexible and convenient transportation that enables locals and visitors to explore the region’s natural and cultural attractions at their own pace.
“The development of tourism in the wider North Clare area must be done sustainably and continue to be inclusive of the views of local communities, which is why we are seeking the public’s input on the roll-out of the new shuttle service.
“The free, bookable service is designed to enhance the visitor experience while supporting sustainable tourism and driving economic benefits for local communities. The feedback received to date has been very positive due to the initiative’s focus on improving connectivity within our local communities. It also encourages tourists to stay locally, leave the car behind, and explore the surrounding towns and villages.”
