Limerick has been ranked among the Top 10 most sustainable city break destinations in Europe in a new survey.
The study, by car rental firm DiscoverCars, based its rankings on a range of factors – including the number of hotels that have EV/electric vehicle charging stations, number of restaurants with vegan options, number of nearby nature spots, pollution levels and nearby airports.
According to DiscoverCars: “Sustainability is a hot topic in travel, and for many holidaymakers, it’s a major factor in helping them decide where to go on their next adventure. There are lots of ways that travellers are keeping the environment in mind as they plan their trips, including choosing accommodation that prioritises sustainability. Increasingly, people are deliberately traveling in the off-season in order to help prevent overtourism, when too many visitors come to the same destination at once.”
One city was picked from each country that made the list. Limerick was ranked 10th in the list.
