Keem Beach, in Co Mayo, has been included in this year’s World’s 50 Best Beaches list – the only Irish location to make the list and one of only 8 European beaches to make the cut.
Located on Achill Island, along the Wild Atlantic Way, Keem Beach was made famous for being featured in the 2022 Martin McDonagh movie The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.
Keem’s panoramic location, white sands, horsehoe-shaped bay and calm waters solidified its place on the list.

The overall list was littered with stunning beaches around the Caribbean, Oceania and the Indian Ocean.
Italy and Greece were the best represented countries from Europe – Italy bookending the list, taking 50th and 1st places with La Pelosa (50) and Cala Goloritze (1), respectively, both located in Sardinia.
Greece ranked 31st, 16th, and 4th – with Porto Katsiki (Lefkada), Voutoumi Beach (Antipaxos), and Fteri Beach (Kefalonia) respectively.
Spain makes the list, at number 18, with Playa de Rodas beach, off the coast of the northern city of Vigo. France ranked 46th with Santa Giulia Beach in Porto Vecchio.
