Ireland is becoming a bona fide hotbed for lighthouse tourism – a growing niche tourism market, where people travel to see spectacular lighthouses around the world.

A new report, commissioned by Irish Lights, shows that lighthouse tourism is generating an impressive €33m per year in tourist revenue.

Visitor spend, at the sites of Ireland’s 16 heavily-visited lighthouses, reached €3.4m last year – up from €1.5m in 2018.

Actual visitor numbers to Irish lighthouses have also more than doubled since 2018 – with last year seeing some 350,000 visits.
