Government Announces €1.3m+ Funding for Global Promotion of Irish Arts

Tourism and Arts Minister Catherine Martin has announced funding of over €1.3m for the promotion of Irish arts globally through Culture Ireland’s Regular Grants Programme.

The funding will benefit 140 projects taking place in over 20 countries, covering architecture, circus, dance, film, literature, music, theatre and visual arts.

Announcing the grants, Minister Martin said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce this round of Culture Ireland funding of over €1.3m. Many of these projects take place in 2025, the 20th anniversary of Culture Ireland’s establishment. Through securing the largest allocation in its history in Budget 2025, I am pleased to see the huge depth and range of work being presented to international audiences demonstrating the true diversity of contemporary Irish arts.”

Projects include:

  • Architecture: Irish Architecture Foundation presenting Curating for Change at Färgfabriken Gallery’s Architecture Triennale, Stockholm (Sweden)
  • Circus: Murray Molloy presenting “Born of Normal Parents” at Kenya International Theatre Festival and Bagamoyo International Theatre Festival in Kenya and Tanzania 
  • Dance: continuing support for a range of projects including Teaċ Daṁsa’s How To Be A Dancer in Seventy-two Thousand Easy Lessons at Teatros del Canal, Madrid, Spain, United Fall’s Birdboy by Emma Martin at Sadler’s Wells East, UK
  • Film: support towards attendance by Irish filmmakers at significant international film festivals such as the Irish Film Festival London and the Aesthetica Film Festival, York, Britain, the International Whistler Film Festival, Canada, and the Emerald City Irish Film Festival, Seattle, USA
  • Literature: Irish writers appearing at various international literary festivals, such as the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Italy, Jaipur Literature Festival, India, and the Auckland Writers Festival, New Zealand; Poetry reading is also supported at the Kolkata’s International Poetry Festival, India, and Faclan: The Hebridean Book Festival, Isle of Lewis, Scotland
  • Music: Support towards over 40 international tours across the world covering a range of artists and genres including Niamh Bury (Australia), Síomha (Australia), CMAT (Australia), Clare Sands (Australia/ New Zealand), Junior Brother (Britain), Really Good Time (Britain/Europe), modernlove (Britain/Europe), John Francis Flynn (Britain/USA), Lemoncello (Spain), Crying Loser (France), Pa Sheehy (Britain/Europe)  (Europe), Camerata (China),  Garth Knox (Czech Republic), yunè pinku (USA/Canada), Greywind (USA/Canada), Niall McCabe (Midwest USA), Orla Gartland (USA/Canada)
  • Theatre: support for international tours, including Brú Theatre (Britain), THISISPOPBABY (Australia), Dan Colley/Riverbank Arts Centre (Australia/USA), Fishamble: The New Play Company (USA), Pan Pan (China), Brokentalkers (Norway/USA)
  • Visual Arts: International exhibitions by Irish artists including Brian Harte (Belgium), Ana Walayat (Pakistan), Valeria Ceregini (Italy), Laura Kelly (Canada), Louise Manifold (Egypt), Joanne Boyle (USA), Sam Keogh (Lithuania) and towards Irish presence at international art fairs including The London Art Fair (Britain), Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (Britain), INK Miami Art Fair (USA), Art Basel International Contemporary Art Fair (USA) and Portland Fine Print Fair (USA)
  • Multidisciplinary: Continued support towards the programme of Irish arts and culture at key festivals and venues including the Irish Music and Dance London (Britain), the Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith (Britain) and the presentation of Performance of Reimagined: Irish & Italian Historical Works for cello, accordion and dance (Italy)
