Fáilte Ireland has welcomed the appointment of its chief executive – Paul Kelly – as chairperson of the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI). The role is voluntary position and Mr Kelly will continue as Fáilte Ireland CEO.
Mr Kelly said: “As someone who was born with ocular albinism, I have a visual impairment. Throughout my life I have worked hard to see the world and now I am privileged to have the opportunity to work hard to help the world see the challenges that people with visual impairments and blindness face every day in their lives.
“I am proud to join NCBI and look forward to building on the excellent work of Paul Ledwidge, the board and the dedicated staff at NCBI, who are transforming the lives of children and adults with sight loss throughout Ireland. As chair, I am committed to ensuring NCBI becomes an even stronger advocate for people who are blind or vision-impaired so all can have access to the same opportunities, rights and choices as anyone else in society,” he said.
