Fáilte Ireland has unveiled its “Winter in Dublin“ programme. Building on the success of last year, the event schedule promises to “captivate visitors, once again, with magical experiences” spanning from the 1st November 2023 to 31st January 2024.
“Winter in Dublin” will feature a line-up of events and activities that are becoming cherished traditions for people all over Ireland visiting Dublin.
This includes bespoke nighttime events that reimagine the possibilities for the city after dark, and family-friendly, and festive occasions with like Christmas at the Castle and NYF Dublin to ring in the new year.
There will also be enough live music to fill the month of January.
Fáilte Ireland said: “Dublin, with its vibrant arts and entertainment scene, owes much of its allure to the many cultural institutions, music and theatre venues, and food and drink locations that are the driving force behind the magic that makes Dublin such a wonderful place to plan a short getaway this Winter. As the evenings turn longer in November, Dublin’s rich cultural heritage comes to life under the enchanting glow of streetlights, as the city is filled with the sounds of bustling pubs and live music.
“As darkness falls, historic landmarks and bridges, such as Ha’penny Bridge and Dublin Castle, are bathed in lights and the city’s nightscape comes to life! Strolling through the cobblestone streets, you’ll feel the excitement in the air, with the warmth of the locals, the lively atmosphere, and the gentle hum of conversation.”
Highlights of this year’s programme include:
· New this year, Dublin by Night Fest willbe one of the opening “Winter in Dublin” events taking place November 2nd – 3rd. The two-day festival celebrates the magic of music, arts and culture in Dublin by night with everything from brass bands, buskers and circus performers to a live outdoor movie screening. Why not start your Christmas shopping early the at the Night Market! Re-fuel throughout the festivities at the many food stalls and be inspired by live cookery demonstrations.
· For literature lovers The Dublin Book Festival, taking place from the 8th – 12th November celebrates Irish books, authors, and Dublin’s creative writing spirit. Later in November The Jonathan Swift Festival will take place in the beautiful St Patrick’s Cathedral with debates, performances and immersive tours.
· Opportunities for a night at the museum this Winter in Dublin with The Little Museum of Ireland offering late night tours with a warming festive tipple on Thursdays, Friday’s and Saturdays throughout November. The National Gallery of Ireland is offering lots of fun after dark events including ‘Meet the Maker’, evening concerts and Spanish themed experiences.
· Light Up Dublin, the city streets and buildings will be adorned in the weeks ahead with festive lights, creating a wonderful ambiance. Many venues around the city will host their own light events including Wonderlights at Malahide Castle, a mesmerising light show in the beautiful grounds of Malahide Castle from November 10th. “Wild Lights” will also return to Dublin Zoo from 16th November 2023, where families can step inside an enchanting winter world to discover the secret life of the Zoo at night.
