Dublin’s Westin Hotel to Rebrand as The College Green Hotel After Scrapping ‘Westmoreland’ Label

Dublin’s Westin Hotel will now be renamed The College Green Hotel under its rebranding exercise.

The hotel had, initially, planned to, by this month, rebrand as The Westmoreland Hotel.

However, it has scrapped that idea due to public complaints about the proposed name’s connotations.

The Westin, seemingly, had received complaints that the new name could be seen to be accidentally and misintentionally glorifying John Fane – the pro-slavery 10th Earl of Westmoreland.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Westin Dublin general manager Joanne Dillon said: “College Green is one of the most historic yet contemporary and dynamic locations in Dublin where journeys converge at the heart of a bustling city.”

“Having initially considered a renaming to The Westmoreland Hotel, we took on board the feedback from patrons and others, which alongside reflection on our environment and patron experience, informed our decision to opt for a new name.

“We are very excited to adopt The College Green Hotel as our new brand and are grateful to those who shared their views. It feels right for us and for our patrons, both now and for the future.”
