Airbnb Reveals Irish Customer Location Trends and Announces Significant App Upgrades

Airbnb has released data on what are the sought after locations this winter season in Ireland.

Guests are not afraid of the colder weather and are seeking experiences along the Wild Atlantic Way and national parks, in the main.

Airbnb said: “The end of year is another great opportunity for families to gather and enjoy some festive cheer and this winter, families in Ireland are seeking trips that focus on the rich history of Ireland, with famous medieval towns like Carlingford and Athlone on the trending family destinations this winter.”

The company added: “Guests can enjoy the moodiness of Ireland’s dramatic rugged coastline and after, settle into an evening in some of Ireland’s cosiest pubs and restaurants. Travelers looking further afield to keep warm over the winter are in search of some summer sun in destinations like Noosa Heads in Australia and Spain.

“The end of year is another great opportunity for families to gather and enjoy some festive cheer and this winter, families in Ireland are seeking trips that focus on the rich history of Ireland, with famous medieval towns like Carlingford and Athlone on the trending family destinations this winter. Families looking to go further afield are keen to get into the festive spirit with searches for popular Christmas market destinations like Munich and Brussels included in the top ten list, as well as the ultimate festive experience in Lapland.

“The colder and wilder Irish weather doesn’t seem to deter people from enjoying the great outdoors as the top five booked categories this winter are national parks, golfing, beaches, cities and the countryside with guests searching for amenities including wireless internet, hot tub, free parking, a kitchen and a washer to make their stays even cosier.

These winter trends have been announced as Airbnb introduces a number of upgrades to its app which will include a more personalised travel experience.

These updates are designed with guests in mind, making the whole user experience and journey from search to booking easier.

First-time guests will be greeted with a ‘Welcome Guide,’ giving them a quick overview of essential features – allowing them to jump straight into booking their next getaway.

As the app is used more, recommended locations based on search and booking history can help to inspire future holidays, alongside animated tips that make it easy to take advantage of discounts or view instant book listings for last-minute trips.

These features are only the tip of the iceberg and demonstrate Airbnb’s commitment to ensuring a tailored guest experience that is unique and personalised to each user.

A summary of Airbnb’s new upgrades:

A more personalised app

We’re introducing over 50 guest upgrades that make the Airbnb experience more personal.

  • We want guests to spend more time traveling and less time planning so we’re making it quicker and easier to find the perfect place.
  • From a fun and quick welcome guide for new users, to suggested destinations and recommended filters, we’re making searches more intuitive to take the extra work out of planning a trip.
  • Filters can be incredibly helpful for guests to find their perfect stay with four out of every five searches using at least one filter. However, with over 80 filters to choose from we know guests can feel overwhelmed so we’re redesigning search filters with recommendations based on your past bookings and current search.
  • Some of the most commonly used amenity filters include WiFi, pool, hot tub, air conditioning, and a kitchen.
  • Proximity to points of interest is often considered by guests when choosing a stay. In fact 85% of guests say location is important to them when deciding between booking an Airbnb listing or other accommodation.
  • Maps are a great way to help understand the proximity of a listing to key places, but they currently may not have enough context so we’re revamping them to make it even easier to pinpoint where a listing is in proximity to key attractions, parks and neighbourhoods.

More options for booking your stay

  • In addition to making it easier for guests to find their perfect Airbnb, we’re also giving them more options to conveniently pay for their stay their way.
  • Today we’re excited to introduce four more local payment methods: Vipps in Norway, Mobile Pay in Denmark, MoMo in Vietnam and P24 in Poland. By spring 2025 we expect to have nearly 40 different local payment methods live across five continents, used by more than 4 billion people around the world, providing more options for guests and helping to make Airbnb accessible to people that may not have been able to pay for a stay before
  • We’re also making the checkout experience quicker for certain returning guests by showing them key details at a glance and helping them book with just a single tap.

Airbnb are also launching a Co-Host Network, which will provide an easy way to find the best local hosts to manage your Airbnb. Co-Host Network is available in the app and at airbnb.com/host in 10 countries, namely, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US.
