Dublin to Cairo with Egyptair: So Pharaoh-way, but Still Feels Like Home!

EGP 777-300ER in-flight

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Cairo, where I would spend a few days before flying on down to Luxor where I would join a luxury river cruise on the Nile, then head back from Aswan to Cairo for another nights stay before heading back onboard my Egyptair flight back to Dublin. I’d heard lots about Egyptair, so I was curious to fly on them. And boy how they didn’t disappoint.

Egyptair, the national carrier of Egypt, provides an exceptional travel experience, and from the initial booking to check in to boarding to the onboard service you can really see the genuine, warm and friendly welcome from all the crew.

Egyptair offers both economy and business class services that cater to every type of traveller. I happened to be on the luckier side of the airplane this time around and so I can say that the service was memorable. Part of what I love when I fly business is the feeling of being special, I know it’s a bit sad, but for someone who rarely flies business it’s the little things that make the price worthwhile.

Starting in the airport lounge, I grabbed a glass of champagne and some treats to get me started on my journey. Egyptair is alcohol free, which to be fair didn’t bother me as I rarely drink on a plane, especially on a shortish flight like this one.

But I did enjoy the luxury experience in the lounge. Eventually my flight was called and I strolled down to the gate, where I was greeted with warmth and smiles and I was lucky to be sitting in the first row, so I got the full effect of feeling special as all my economy friends walked by in envy. Juices and waters were offered, and taken and then like most of us, I jumped straight into the product bag to see what was included. After a good look at the goodies, it was time to put on the socks, throw the blanket over me, and try and relax a little before takeoff.

Egyptair Fam Trip to Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh - ITTN

Throughout the flight a main meal is served along with the usual snacks. In Business there was a menu to choose from and I went with the vegetarian dish which was delicious. The entertainment was as you’d expect, blockbuster movies, music and games. I managed to squeeze in two movies – a luxury for me I can tell you. And while the seats aren’t fully lie flat, they were exceptionally comfortable and I would have been able to get some sleep if I had wanted to.

Alas, it was time to land, a handy tip is to book the premium service at Cairo airport, I was met off the plane, whisked to a lounge, where my airport host promptly went and got my luggage and managed my visa before speeding me across the airport in a golf buggy to my waiting car. This is a service I would recommend to everyone and it has varying levels of services.

Internal flights with Egyptair are plentiful and easy to book. I flew business up and down to the Nile River and was again impressed by how even on  short flight, the airline managed to excel with its offering. The crew onboard are simply exceptionally friendly and like most Egyptians, caring by nature.

The return to Dublin marked a sad one, as I didn’t want to depart the beautiful country. As part of the premium service, I was lucky to have a car bring me to the steps of the plane – no bus for me! And wow did I feel like a princess.

On the flight home I experienced similar excellent service, there was no menu this time around, but an elegant trolley was brought around with a selection of meals on it and you could choose which one you’d like. This was a nice touch and it felt like a classy restaurant instead of flight.

On touch down, reality returned and off I went to queue at the taxi rank like the rest of us. The Egyptian dream was over – for now – but I know one day, I’ll be back. There’s more of this stunning country I want to explore ❤️
