Madeira Fam Trip – Food & Wine Tour

The last few days of the Madeira Fam trip delivered highlights across the island including a food and wine tour around Funchal that had 8 tasty pit stops. From €60 per person, this tour takes 3 hours and is a great way to see the town. We then took to the skies via a cable car (€12 one way / €18 return) which offers panoramic views across the city. Once at the top, take a short stroll to the Madeiran Toboggans and embark on one of the most thrilling experiences on the island!

At €30 per sled, this is definitely a must-do while on the island. We finished the day in Blandy’s gardens where we got to see the most interesting plants and flowers. Later that evening it was off to Peixaria Do Marcado Restaurant for a wonderful seafood dinner and a visit to the old town.

Finally, we finished the trip off with a ‘live like a local’ day with an off-road jeep experience. We followed this with a visit to abandoned farmland. There we joined a farmer who cut down some sugarcane which was then used to feed cattle. We then cultivated and prepped our own lettuce to use in our salad and picked some lemons to make the famous local drink Poncho.

The group was brought to a traditional Madeiran BBQ house where we had the local  ‘Espetada’ which is beef cooked over the BBQ on a Laurel branch.  Simply delicious and a real treat. This tour is all day and includes the BBQ and is at a cost of €65 with True Spirit Company.

Later that evening the group travelled to Paul Do Mar where we dined at Maktub a funky little restaurant on the seafront that offered a chilled vibe. Here we ate tacos and local fish cooked in salt followed by a sunset cocktail. Mojitos are famous here, so of course, we tried one. It was a great end to a wonderful trip.

Madeira certainly won our hearts. I’d highly recommend it for couples, groups and active families. And with prices on Ryanair currently available @ €115 return in May, it’s a winning option for clients.
