Welcome 'Back' British Airways!

It may not seem like it, but it's 20 years since British Airways-liveried aircraft flew into and out of Dublin Airport. BA has continued to have a strong offline presence in Ireland, of course, but IAG's acquisition of bmi will soon result in BA tailplanes again being seen on the apron. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has acquired 2.987% of Aer Lingus shares.

British Airways Back in Dublin and Belfast!

The acquisition of the bmi group of airlines by International Airlines Group will result in British Airways-liveried aircraft once again operating from Dublin and Belfast to London Heathrow, along with the disappearance of the BD flight code, but the deal could result in more than 2,000 job losses and raises many questions – only a few of which have yet been answered.

New Amadeus MD Likes to Listen

Expedia Rewards New Affiliates

As part of a promotion to attract new travel agent affiliates to Expedia's Travel Agencies Affiliate Programme (TAAP), Expedia has sent a €10 HMV voucher to each of the 25 travel agents who registered for the programme in March.

New KLM Business Class from June 2013

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has asked leading Dutch designer Hella Jongerius to revitalise its World Business Class cabin interior across the fleet – including the introduction of fully-flat seats – and will begin converting the first aircraft in June 2013.

KiwiRail to Introduce New Overlander Service

KiwiRail is making changes to the train service between Wellington and Auckland to transform the service into an internationally recognised tourism product. The Overlander currently runs a daily service during summer months and three days a week during winter using carriages that are up to 60 years old. The new service, which will be rebranded and will use new purpose-built carriages, is planned to begin operation on Monday 25th June 2012.

New Over 50s Brochure from Abbey Travel

Abbey Travel will be launching its new Over 50s Getaways brochure this month. Meanwhile, prices for September 2012 to June 2013 are now available and start from €445 per person sharing. Packages include return flights, seven nights hotel and transfers, and some include an excursion. In Spain and the Canary Islands half-board accommodation is included with wine and water, while packages to Portugal are on a B&B basis.

NYC Tourism Sets $70b Target for 2015

NYC & Company, New York City's official tourism and marketing organisation, announced at last week's International Pow Wow in Los Angeles that New York City has set a new goal to generate US$70 billion in economic impact from travel and tourism by 2015. Building on a new visitation goal to attract 55 million visitors in this same time period, NYC & Company continues to expand its efforts with particular focus on attracting international visitors, who account for 50% of direct tourism spending.
