Christmas Arrives for the Irish Travel Industry!
Last Friday heralded the inaugural Irish Travel Industry Christmas Party at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin where a great night was enjoyed by all. It was a night when everyone was a winner because not only were 34 prizes awarded – 22 Irish Travel Trade Awards, the Irish Travel Industry Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Ireland's Favourite Travel Agent, the Travel Agent Voter of the Year, and nine Prize Draws of tickets for two to destinations worldwide – but also the event's headline sponsor, Etihad Airways, presented a €50 voucher to "everyone in the audience".

Amadeus Wins 'Best Agent Friendly Supplier'
Amadeus won two of the 22 Irish Travel Trade Awards 2011 presented at the inaugural Irish Travel Industry Christmas Party at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, last Friday night – including the new award category of 'Best Agent Friendly Supplier'. Etihad Airways also won two awards – 'Best Long Haul Airline' and 'Best Business Class Airline'. Another new award category, 'Best Resort Transfer Company', was won by Holiday Taxis.
Announcing the Awards, Ronan Flood, Managing Editor of Irish Travel Trade News, said: "2011 has been an exceptionally difficult year for all involved in the travel industry. In hard times like these it is especially important to recognise and reward companies that continued to provide outstanding products and services in 2011 – as judged by Ireland's travel agents." Liam Lonergan of Club Travel is Nominated Irish Travel Industry Entrepreneur of the Year
The winner of the inaugural Irish Travel Industry Entrepreneur of the Year Award, presented by the Association of Foreign Airlines, the Irish Tour Operators Federation, and Irish Travel Trade News, is Liam Lonergan of Club Travel.
Outlining the methodology adopted, Ronan Flood, Managing Editor of Irish Travel Trade News, said: "In our initial discussions, the three participating bodies agreed that the judging criteria should place emphasis on entrepreneurial acumen and skills, product innovation, and proven service to the Irish travel industry. Sunway Travel Wins 'Ireland's Favourite Travel Agent'
The Irish Travel Industry Christmas Party also saw Blackrock, Co Dublin, based travel agency Sunway Travel again voted 'Ireland's Favourite Travel Agent' in the award scheme organised by 'Irish Travel Trade News' and launched by host Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ's The Late Late Show on 21st October. Votes were cast online by the travelling public all over Ireland and nominations were independently audited by Grant Thornton.
Tanya Airey, Managing Director of Sunway Travel, was present to receive the prize of a trip for two to Thailand, courtesy of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas. Read more >>>

Margaret Shannon Appointed Country Manager by Emirates
As exclusively revealed by Irish Travel Trade News on its website on Monday 21st November, Margaret Shannon has been appointed Country Manager – Ireland by Emirates. Margaret is one of Ireland's most highly experienced aviation executives, having worked with Ryanair, KLM, Air France KLM and, most recently, Aer Lingus.
Margaret told Irish Travel Trade News: "I have been getting lovely messages from people in Aer Lingus and from many others in the Irish travel industry. Emirates' new nine-strong executive team in Ireland are going for five days training in Dubai and then on 9th December we officially begin operating from Regus House, Harcourt Centre, Harcourt Road, Dublin 2.
