Secondly, we welcome the news of 19 new jobs in Ireland's travel industry – 17 with Emirates at Dublin Airport and two with Riviera Travel's new office in Dublin city.

Inaugural Best Agent Friendly Supplier Award
The 20th Irish Travel Trade Awards, which will give recognition for excellence by 22 suppliers in Ireland's travel industry for the year 2011, will include a new overall category of 'Best Agent Friendly Supplier'.
Only owners, management, staff and home workers of licensed and bonded travel agencies in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are entitled to vote – thus making the Irish Travel Trade Awards uniquely 'by all-Ireland professionals to professionals' and hence highly prized by the winning suppliers. Oscars Night for Ireland's Travel Industry
'Irish Travel Trade News' will be holding the inaugural Irish Travel Industry Christmas Party on Friday 25th November 2011 at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, from 7.30 pm until (very!) late.
It will be the time of year when everyone starts to 'wind down' for the Christmas holidays. It's the time to relax, have some fun, enjoy the entertainment, and applaud the winners of the industry's 'Oscars' – the 20th Irish Travel Trade Awards 2011 – and the second holder of the title 'Ireland's Favourite Travel Agent' as conferred by consumers across Ireland. UK Government Reduces Ex-NI APD
UK Chancellor George Osborne announced on Tuesday that Air Passenger Duty will be cut for passengers travelling on direct long-haul routes departing from airports in Northern Ireland.
From 1st November 2011 the direct long-haul APD rate will be reduced to the short-haul rate, which is currently £12 per passenger in Economy Class and £24 for First and Business Class passengers. (Long-haul rates of £60 and £120 currently apply.) Read more >>>

Expedia Affiliate Network Partnership with Aer Lingus
Expedia Affiliate Network has signed a long-term hotel supply partnership with Aer Lingus. Those booking flights on the Aer Lingus website now have booking access to almost 140,000 hotels worldwide – and the ability to create their own holiday packages when combined with Aer Lingus flights. The partnership also includes the ability to book excursions, event tickets and activities though EAN's in-destination offering.
Asked to comment by Irish Travel Trade News, Paul Hackett of ClickandGo, which recently began offering holidays on the Aer Lingus website along with The Travel Department, said: "The addition of Expedia does not come as a surprise to us as Aer Lingus advised us of their intention back in May. New International Travel Event for India in 2012
At this month's annual PATA Travel Mart in New Delhi, the Indian Minister for Tourism, Shri Subodh Kant Sahiai, announced that his Department is in the final stages of planning an annual travel trade event that will commence next year in New Delhi or another major city.
The main object of this new Government-sponsored event will be to increase the number of international visitors to India. Industry sources are also of the opinion that this new event will decrease the number of smaller, privately organised regional events. Read more >>>
