Greece to Impose €20 Tax on Cruise Visitors to Avoid Overtourism

Greece is set to tax cruise ship visitors, during peak summer months, in a bid to control the threat of overtourism.

The Greek government’s full plan is expected to be unveiled next week, but the early indications are that it will introduce a €20/$22 tax on cruise ship visitors to Santorini and Mykonos in high summer.

Greece also intends to regulate the flow of cruise ship visits to smaller island areas.

Money raised from the levy will be invested in local infrastructure projects and in local communities, the Greek government has pledged.
