Afternoon Tea with Louisiana

On Friday Afternoon, ITTN’s Allie Sheehan joined the Louisiana Office of Tourism for an afternoon tea in the Merrion Hotel in Dublin.

This was an intimate gathering with representatives from tour operators, travel agents and airlines across the Irish travel trade. This is part of Louisiana’s mission to have smaller events with more impact.

Head Pastry Chef, Merrion Hotel

The afternoon was gorgeous with all the afternoon tea favourites. Unique to the Merrion is that the pastries have a connection to the art in the hotel!

The team at Louisiana is excited to have tourists come back and the numbers are growing, with lots of new attractions, hotels and festivals to see and enjoy.

What’s New in Louisiana

Megan Ryburn, Executive Officer at the Louisiana Office of Tourism outlined some of the new attractions to see in Louisiana that can help make the state the perfect trip. These include:

  • Tammany Trace Bike Trail – a wildlife conservation corridor that links isolated parks, historic land- marks, and wetlands, the trail affords close views of the natural habitat, providing unbroken access via 31 bridges built on the original railroad trestles. Get outdoors on the 31-mile rails to trails for hiking, cycling with a separate equestrian pathway suitable for horse riding.
  • Cane River Pecan Company – The Cane River Pie Bar and Museum are expected to be open this summer! The Pie Bar restaurant will serve up an eclectic menu that features a variety of sweet, savory, and seasonal pies! The museum will include artifacts from the pecan industry, a short film to watch, and an area where people can give cracking and shelling pecans a try.
  • Zip Nola – The world’s first fully aquatic swamp zipline! Get a bird’s eye view of New Orleans’ iconic cypress swamps. Zip over alligators, turtles, snakes, and more from the safety of the treetops!
  • Glamping at Louisiana State Parks – Let visitors camp in style with fully-equipped, safari-style tents. Whether you prefer camping along a quiet bayou, lakefront, or on the hill of a pine forest, we have a secluded spot all set up and ready for you!

I have worked in the travel industry for seven years, from working in American Holidays and The Travel Corporation I have a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of travel. Before joining ITTN I worked for Facebook which gave me the inside knowledge of the wonderful world of social media. I have a BSc in Event Management and am also a qualified beauty therapist (which definitely comes in handy in this business). Recently I joined the AWTE Ireland committee and I am enjoying working with and connecting with the network of women in travel.
