New Complicated Room Tax in Venice

Venice will introduce a room tax from 24th August, similar to the existing tax now in force in Florence. The tax will be €1 per star, per night, per person for a maximum of five nights. There are certain reductions and exemptions. During the low season there will be a 50% reduction across the board.

Guides with groups of 25, coach drivers, and children less than 10 years old will be exempt, as will youth hostels and accommodation owned by Venice City Council. There will be a 50% reduction for 10-16 years old inclusive.

There will also be a difference between the centre of Venice, the islands, and the mainland. For hotels on the lagoon and islands there will be a 30% reduction and 40% for those on the mainland.
