The EU looks likely to agree on a nine-month limit on the validity of Covid vaccines, with the rule set to be applied from 10 January, 2022.
According to a report by Reuters, three EU sources confirmed that a nine-month limit would be agreed, but that there was some pushback by some countries in eastern Europe who worried that such a limit would hinder free movement and the travel industry.
Separately, France has introduced a seven-month limit on the validity of vaccines, which will be applied from 15 January, 2022.
Cyprus has introduced a seven-month limit, while in Greece the pass validity is six months for older people. However, the report says both countries were willing to agree to an EU-wide limit of nine months.
The EU executive has also proposed that PCR tests be made mandatory for all arrivals from outside the bloc in the absence of firm data on the risks posed by the Omicron variant.
However, there remains ongoing debate on the efficacy of such a measure. Discussions will continue today.
