After a small decline from 2008 to 2009, Irish visitors to Germany have been slowly increasing and a 7% increase from 2010 to 2020 is forecast by the German National Tourist Office. Visiting Dublin last night, Klaus Lohmann, Director UK & Ireland, told ITTN: “The figures have been improving since I became Director three years ago – it was a good time to be appointed!
“In 2010 Germany came eighth in market share of all Irish trips abroad at 3% – and with 2% of the holiday market – and the most popular city destinations were Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne. Holiday trips accounted for 54% of all Irish visitors, business for 26%, and VFR/other trips for 20%.
“Germany is the leader in Europe for trade fairs – ITB in Berlin, for example, presents some 10,000 exhibitors in 26 halls, which are connected by bus services! For any Irish travel agent or tour operator interested in Germany, ITB offers around 3,500 German exhibitors, compared with the 35 or so that join us on our stand at World Travel Market.
“We have recently strengthened our London office team with the appointment of Victoria Kyme as PR Manager from 2nd April and of Charles Wilson as Trade Manager, who started today!”
